Employment Termination Query

OK - struggling with this one and need some guidance. I am a senior manager at a multi national engineering consultancy (I am based in Abu Dhabi). In October it was announced that they were pulling out of the Middle East and that I was to close the branch. There was an email from them in October saying that they wanted me to demobilize in December (no dates mentioned). The next thing I hear from them is earlier this week when they email me to say that I am to finish my service with them this week. My question to ponder - does the email issued in October count as notice or should I push for 30 days pay from the date of the email this week?

Added to this they are getting cute about my final payment - trying to avoid paying repatriation of myself, my family and our household effects, trying to avoid paying my last expenses claim, and trying to recover housing costs for the next 30 days (they paid my rent 1 year in advance - the lease expires in 30 days).

Any thoughts as to what the notice period should be? I know when I terminated my staff I gave them a formal letter, countersigned by both parties and stamped outlining what their final date would be and thanking them for their service. I would have hoped for something similar, but it is what it is....
